Kunal R Virulkar’s story has resonated deeply with many as he candidly shared his UPSC journey, reflecting the arduous path faced by aspirants striving to crack the prestigious examination. His post, detailing his numerous attempts and the ultimate outcome of not being selected, has sparked a wave of admiration and empathy across social media platforms.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam is renowned as one of the toughest and most prestigious exams in India, drawing aspirants from across the country each year. With its rigorous demands, the exam requires meticulous planning, unwavering dedication, and a disciplined approach. For many, cracking the UPSC Civil Services exam remains a cherished dream and a significant milestone.

As the results for the UPSC exam were recently declared, a heartfelt post by a UPSC aspirant who was not selected has captured the attention and admiration of many online. Kunal R Virulkar, a first-generation engineering graduate, took to social media to share his journey, revealing that despite 12 attempts, 7 main exams, and 5 interviews, he did not secure a selection. His post, expressing the struggles and resilience inherent in his journey, struck a chord with netizens, garnering widespread support and encouragement.

In his poignant post, Virulkar wrote, “12 attempts, 7 main exams, 5 interviews. NO SELECTION. Shayad zindagi ka dusra naam hi sangharsh hai,” which translates to “Perhaps the second name of life is struggle.” Accompanying his words was a picture of himself outside the UPSC headquarters in Delhi. Since its posting, the viral message has garnered immense attention, with over 1.2 million views and 19,000 likes, along with an outpouring of love and motivational messages from online users.

Several individuals expressed admiration for Virulkar’s perseverance and resilience, highlighting the inspirational nature of his journey. Filmmaker Vinod Kapri commended Virulkar’s character and journey, offering words of encouragement and admiration. Many users lauded Virulkar’s positivity and patience in the face of adversity, emphasizing the strength and determination demonstrated through his repeated attempts at the UPSC exam.

Amidst Virulkar’s story, the UPSC also announced the top ranks of the exam, with Aditya Srivastava securing the top position, followed by Animesh Pradhan and Donuru Ananya Reddy. A total of 1,016 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various prestigious positions, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and Central Services, Group ‘A’ and ‘B’. The merit list was compiled based on the results of the written part of the Civil Services Examination 2023 and subsequent interviews held from January to April 2024.

The UPSC exam is a rigorous test of knowledge, skills, and aptitude, demanding unwavering determination and resilience from aspirants. While success may elude some despite their best efforts, individuals like Kunal R Virulkar serve as shining examples of perseverance and courage, inspiring countless others to continue their pursuit of excellence despite setbacks and challenges.
